This is a collection of works made in response to Goya's etching 'The Sleep of Reason Brings Forth Monsters'. I worked on these sculptures, 'sculptures to wear' drawings, paintings and animations over a year and the work culminated in a show with Sylvia Luedtke in Osnabruck, who had been working on the theme too. We emailed and skyped regularly so that the show had a unity and joint purpose, with ideas and research shared and responded to. One of the last pieces of work for the show was the animation/ video Fasnacht in which I wore sculptures made in response to the dark inner world and demons referred to by Goya. Making it felt like a rite of passage, with profound affects evoked. The characters created and shown here as video stills are The Three-Eyed Long-Eared Bat Person, Nut/Nuit, Rat Man, Wise Old Man. Another photo shows one part of the gallery installation with sculptures and drawings.
