Drawing loosely based on photographs taken by various mining explorers - and myself - down lead mine tunnels in Cwmystwth and the Rheidol valley where I live and work. (Additional images are sketchbook pages) Drawing began in 2019, accompanied by deep depression due to the causes and ensuing effects of Brexit, but as yet ignorance of the approaching pandemic. Several months and innumerable trips up and down the ladder later, it was finally completed a few weeks after the first lockdown was imposed in Wales in March 2020, by which time it had become clear that the work could be read on many levels, including as a metaphor for these troubling times.
