Unhooked Violet (from Shrinking Violets Series)

By  Lucy Brown 2008

Tony May (Crafts Council)

Dimensions
247cm x 35cm (Depending on installation)

Unhooked Violet is part of a series of five works titled Shrinking Violets and are reconstructed from vintage petticoats and dressing gown. Each piece is individually titled and focuses on a particular fastening: Unhooked Violet, Unlaced Violet, Unbuttoned Violet, and Unzipped Violet except for Shrunken Violet. The series plays on the perceptions of Shrinking Violet. Instead of being shy and modest the wearers have shed their shrinking violet skins and become revealed and liberated. Shrinking Violets were first exhibited at the Crafts Council Shop at the Victoria & Albert Museum London. 2000.
