Untitled (The Art Book)

Ongoing series of collages produced by cutting up pages in Phaidon’s ‘The Art Book’ and reassembling them to create new representations of an alternative art history.

The Art Book was first published in 1994 as the first ever fully-illustrated art dictionary. It presents an abundance of famous, varied and colourful images by 500 of the ‘greatest’ artists from the Middle Ages to the present day. Only a tiny percentage of these artists were women.

In these collages, I take all the representations of women by male artists throughout history, and re-present them with autonomy to address the power imbalance.
