Venus

By Francoise Dupre 2002 - 2011

FXP Photography, London

Dimensions
17 x15 x5cm each

Venus was first created as part of a series of artworks where the artist explored issues around gender and identity, using children and baby socks (see on installation titled Brooder 1999-2012). This Venus is one of a hundred made with a wide range of children's socks. The title evokes the famous prehistorical sculpture 'The Willendorf Venus', the beautiful and powerful Mother Earth goddess. Venus installation was first shown at the Can'Art galerie in Toulouse, France, 2002 as part of the artist solo exhibition: Les merveilles de Françoise Dupré. In 2012, the installation was part of the artist solo exhibition autre mers (other seas) at the Women's Library, London and the group exhibition Mailles, at La Maison du Danemark, Paris. 2m50H x 3m60W x 0m30D
