Vestiges

By  Diane Roberts 2026

Vestiges is an ongoing body of work exploring traces, fragments, and remembered landscapes through printmaking, small sculptural forms, collected objects, and observational drawing.

The project emerged through walking, gathering, and close attention to coastal environments, particularly around Hengistbury Head and the Dorset shoreline. Shells, stones, drift material, weathered surfaces, archaeological remains, and natural forms become part of an investigation into memory, time, erosion, and human presence.

The work moves between abstraction and recognition. Shapes are sometimes suggestive of bones, tools, relics, maps, or body fragments, while remaining rooted in direct observation and material process. Printmaking, layering, pressure, texture, and repetition are central to the development of the imagery.

Vestiges connects personal memory with wider histories held within landscape — geological, archaeological, environmental, and emotional. The project is concerned with what survives, what disappears, and the quiet marks left behind through time.

This work forms part of Diane Roberts’ wider investigative practice linking landscape, perception, spirituality, material process, and lived experience.
