Winnie has a new home

By  Christine Wilcox-Baker 2021 - 2026

Having resided in the Warrington Art Gallery Winnie has moved slightly and is currently living in Warrington Central Library. Housed in the same Grade II listed building as the Museum and Art Gallery she didn’t have too far to travel and is very at home, listening in on group meetings and the like. She is also now well used to being photographed, solo or in groups and selfies.

I created Winifred ‘Winnie’ Weaver for The Wire Works project, commissioned by Warrington Borough Council. ‘Winnie’ has now been acquired by Warrington Museum and Art Gallery for their permanent collection. Inspired by my research into the history of wire making in Warrington this work focuses on women in wire. ‘Winnie’ is designed to represent women working in wire companies through the centuries.
