"Yellow Bear Folly"

By  Tim Pugh 2018
The temporary installation was created on a remote beach near Nethertown in West Cumbria in late August 2018.In my quest to discover new environments I caught a train to the remote station at Nethertown, not far from the nuclear complex of Sellafield. The beautiful bay parallel to the beach was as is with most beaches in the area, blighted by plastic pollution .I found a plastic seat and adhered collected bottle top lids onto the surface and crowned the structure with a yellow bear toy.The installation acts as a folly to the new worship of consumerism and its environmental impact on the natural world.Related to this theme is the prescence of nearby ancient Celtic and Viking wheel crosses in the area which the artwork superficially resembles.
