Why Axis is Leaving X
At Axis, we’ve been reflecting on the platforms we use to connect with artists, members, and audiences. Platforms shape how we engage and communicate, and they need to align with our values: kindness, support, critical discourse, inclusion, and respect.
For years, X (formerly Twitter) has been a space where we’ve shared opportunities, celebrated creativity, and connected with the wider public. It’s been an important part of how we reach out. But as the platform has evolved, its dynamics have shifted in ways that no longer reflect who we are or the environment we want to engage with.
This wasn’t an easy decision. We’ve thought long and hard about how to move forward.
Why We’re Moving On
Axis has always been about creating spaces where everyone feels welcome and valued. For us, this means prioritising thoughtful dialogue, mutual respect, and collaboration.
Over time, X has become a platform where these principles are harder to sustain. The tone has changed. The culture has shifted. While it still offers opportunities for outreach, it no longer nurtures the kind of meaningful engagement we aim to build. Rather than compromise our values, we’ve decided to focus on spaces that reflect our mission and vision for the future.
Strengthening Our Community
At the heart of Axis is our community platform—a private, supportive space where members can connect, share, and grow.
Guided by our Membership Charter, this platform nurtures an environment built on respect, collaboration, and constructive dialogue. The charter sets out the shared behaviours and interactions that create a safer and more inclusive space for diverse voices and perspectives.
It’s where meaningful engagement in the arts can flourish.
We’re proud of what we’ve built, and we’re committed to making it even better.
Why Bluesky?
While our community platform is our foundation, we also recognise the importance of outreach. Platforms like Bluesky and Instagram allow us to extend access, share opportunities, and connect with new and diverse voices.
Bluesky feels different. It offers a fresh start—a space designed with open dialogue, collaboration, and innovation at its core. It appears a better fit for the kind of meaningful engagement we want to foster with artists, members, and the wider public.
This isn’t just about switching platforms. It’s about making choices that reflect who we are and what we stand for.
What’s Next?
Our handle on Bluesky is @axisweb.bsky.social, and we’re excited to continue championing contemporary visual arts.
This is more than a platform change. It’s a reaffirmation of our values and a step toward shaping a future where creativity, connection, and sustainability thrive.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Together, let’s build something better!
