Jessica Wetherly

London/Hertfordshire
A British Sculptor exploring ecology and landscape Jessica Wetherly uses animal allegory to explore concerns around the preservation and destruction of habitats and culture.

Jessica Wetherly (b. 1989) is a British sculptor. She received an MA in from the Royal College of Art (2019). Her work has been exhibited internationally including ACC Galerie Weimar (Germany), Aspex Portsmouth (UK), Fundancion BilbaoArte (Spain), Visual Arts Centre Austin (USA), amongst others. She has also been awarded The Royal Society of Sculptors Gilbert Bayes Award (2020); The Broomhill National Sculpture Prize (2019); and The Stanley Picker Scholarship (2017) alongside a selection of residencies and public sculpture.

Wetherly uses sculpture to explore narrative. Her practise deals with issues around ecology and landscape. Through storytelling & personal reflection she creates complex multi-layered artworks where plants, animals & fungi can be seen as persons, teachers, guardians & kin. Her sculptural practice incorporates diverse materials and processes including ceramics, casting, fountains and digital print as a means to examine how endurance, fear & isolation open pathways into the imagination & connection with the non-human.
