Robert McCubbin
Using collage, drawing, sculpture and photography, my work explores eclectic responses to the creative process using everyday materials and imagery. All set within the contemporary arena of mass consumerism and the impact of the waste materials this engenders. Ultimately, my work is an interaction and ‘communication’ with these materials, via a repurposing of them to form new abstract constructs, reflecting on their enduring and all-encompassing presence.
Lived Experience
I am 65 years old and come from a very rural background of hill farmer/shepherds in South-West Scotland, but subsequently worked in factory environments. In later years I applied for and was successful in taking further education in art as a ‘mature student’ ultimately gaining a BA (Hons) Fine Art. Further to this, I worked as a front line Support Worker in Health and Social Care for over twenty years, whilst maintaining and developing my professional art career.
