Rod Dee
My practice explores notions of ritual and the connections between physical action and transcendence. I work primarily with video and body-based works to investigate the capacity to exceed boundaries and navigate between different spaces.
My influences range from biblical narratives, mythology, and folklore to psychoanalytic theory—a shift inspired by my training as an art psychotherapist and personal therapeutic experiences. What unites these strands is a pursuit of enlightenment, often beginning with a journey. I am continually asking, "How can I be here and not there?" (Wings of Desire, 1987)
Lived Experience
Born in 1984, I currently live and work in Guildford. In 2015, I completed an MA in Art Psychotherapy at The University of Roehampton and now practice as both as an artist and an art therapist.
