This minature sculpture explores masks and subverts the idea of the mask. Generally masks where used in theatrical prductions in the ancient world, wearing the face of another and help project the voice of the actors and actresses to the audience.
Masks are also used to faces, not revealing the true face and to take on the personality of another, yet here I create a mask revealing trauma that would otherwise be hidden and repressed. Masks were used to hide the reality of the injuries suffered by those who fought in the First World War, developed by the sculptor Anna Coleman Ladd, helping these brave men via what became known as Anaplastology.
