"Beacon"

By  Tim Pugh 2019
The tideline intervention was created at South Beach,in Whitehaven,Cumbria and is a combination of natural and manmade materials.I constructed a sandstone pebble tower to support a buoy washed up on the same beach a week earlier. The artwork is reminiscent of seaside manmade features such as beacons or lighthouses and acts as a luminescent totem or warning reminder of the unrelenting flow of plastic washed up on the tideline. After removing the buoy,I converted the structure into an elegant spire, illuminating the conflicting urges inside me that wants to both create political environmental issue based responses as opposed to the old Tim Pugh that created purely decorative artworks.
