Carpe Noctem in 5 parts

A large oil painting which was cut into five organic shapes which were then backed with ply and edged with red velvet. The original work was inspired by the negative of an archival family photograph. As the work became fragmented it started to take on different layers of meaning, reframing capsules of time as inter changable and non linear.

The red velvet binding reminds me of folkloric objects and my Polish heritage.
