Carpe Noctem in 5 parts
A large oil painting which was cut into five organic shapes which were then backed with ply and edged with red velvet. The original work was inspired by the negative of an archival family photograph. As the work became fragmented it started to take on different layers of meaning, reframing capsules of time as inter-changable and non linear.
‘Carpe’ is a moveable artwork, evolving with different hangings and locations. It acknowledges grief as an ever morphing and ever changing energy. The title means ‘live the night’ reminding us to nurture our grieving and losses as a form of self care.
