Night Swimming

Large mixed media painting on linen. Oils, pigment and holographic glitter on hand stretched canvas. 180 x 130cm.

This work explores my personal history through an interpretation of an archival photograph taken by my son then aged 5. His camera holding shadow can be seen at the front of the painting documenting the rest of the family.

NIght swimming refers to dreams and liminal spaces of vibrational energy. Since the death of my late husband (far left on the bench) I seek his presence through the materials and flow of my practise, allowing the work to develop intuitively and in reverence. Grief as an energy which both informs and fuels my practise. Allowing it's presence is incredibly cathartic and healing.
