"Fish out of Water"

By  Tim Pugh 2016
The temporary artwork was created at St Bees beach in Cumbria and made from plastic waste and debris washed up on the tideline.I was shocked by the fact that eight million tonnes of plastic waste are deposited into the oceans every year. The risk of environmental degradation is amplified as the waste enters the food chain thus posing a threat to maritime environments and human populations worldwide. All the material was located on a very small beach and posed the sobering thought at the sheer amount of waste that must be deposited on the beaches across the UK.At the same time,I was equally seduced by the bright colours and enjoyed the process of constructing the fish piece by piece like a jigsaw. After photography, all the plastic was retrieved ready for another future project.
