An alternative view of Medusa suggested by the writings of Hélène Cixous, “You only have to look at the Medusa straight on to see her. And she’s not deadly, she’s beautiful and she’s laughing”.
This painting is part of a developing body of work that refers to narratives of Classical Myth so often mined in the art of the past and the paradoxical practice of visualising the invisible or impossible which painting reveals. These paintings aim to dissolve the familiar narrative, the solidified metaphor, and to open up other meanings and feelings.
