Elements - Arsenic, Iodine, Oxygen and Mercury.
The pieces in this multimedia installation represent the four elements and their uses in lighting. In 'Mercury' a cupboard is opened to reveal a chemistry lab of fluorescing liquids under ultraviolet mercury lights, from the everyday liquids like tonic water and clothes washing liquid to rhodamine and fluorescein. The work was commissioned and shown at the Wellcome Trust, London for the event Elements: 'Bathe in the light created by our four elements in artist Henny Burnett's multimedia installation, which uses candles burning oxygen, iodine halogen lamps, mercury vapour lamps and LEDs based on arsenic'.
