This photograph of a depiction of a Victorian milk jug was created at the site of a bottle midden/Victorian dump in Cleator Moor in Cumbria in August 2023.The midden is a fascinating site and was the local municipal dump for domestic and household items for many years.I used shards of Victorian and Edwardian ceramic found lying around and arranged them into the shape of a Victorian milk jug.It was a melancholy process using the ceramic shards where I imagined each piece held an individual memory or could tell a story of a bygone era.It was also quite tricky to create accurately and to get the proportions correct and had to be very careful whilst harvesting the pieces as the entire site was equally littered with sharp glass everywhere sticking out of the soil.
