Mysteries Two

This is the second of a series of paintings following a visit to the archaeological sites around the Bay of Naples and a startling and stimulating encounter with Roman Painting in situ. I find that damaged surfaces become a type of alluring aesthetic form in its own right. The paintings are a quest for the indefinable frisson of visual pleasure in something not really understood and not entirely seen. The painting process seeking to emulate this involved a red glaze over textured under-painting.
The paintings abstract elements of the visual experience and do not seek to copy the paintings or their original intentions.
