Reworked Part 2

Reworked, Part 2 was a unique curatorial performance devised by Mike Chavez-Dawson as part of his Lionel Dobie residency. Part 2 saw Chavez-Dawson restaging the original ‘reworked’ under a new proviso ‘performative curatorial dynamic’ by inviting collaboration and participation with fellow Directors Helen Collett, Lois MacDonald and wide range of curators, writers and artists over a four hour period. Taking the surrealist method ‘Frottage’ founded by Max Ernst in 1925, Chavez-Dawson & Co* will provide variable pencil rubbings of a new laser drawing on marine ply [& mobile structure] titled ‘Auteur Site, Make What you See – See What You Make 1, 2012’, that features a kaleidoscopic mandala-esque design of the Lionel Dobie Directors eyes. Invited artists* reworked a section using Ernst’s frottage technique with the materials provided, the performance ran as a series of successive 20minutes sessions by each contributing artist, curator and writer from 1pm through to 5.40pm all drawings were available for a nominal fee throughout the duration of the performance - after this the drawings will escalate to £100 each. Reworked, Part 2 furthers the artists’ interest in skeptically proposing the notion of ‘curatorial artworks’ that sit between participatory performance and devised curatorial structures, value systems, labour, and the nebulous location of the work – alongside key issues and themes predominate in his overall research-led practice.
