"South Beach Collection "

By Tim Pugh 2017
The mixed media artwork was created in Whitehaven,West Cumbria and was made in response to preparation to my participation in a group show at Undegun in Wrexham. The theme is about artists creating artworks in response to ordinary everyday objects. The beach intervention is a result of a self initiated project where I have been gathering and collecting Victorian pottery and other domestic finds washed up on a beach in Whitehaven. The fragments are brought in from a subterranean midden or dump and daily high tides leave them stranded on the beach. They are poignant reminders of a bygone age and I have combined the collection with a charcoal drawing of a map of the area where I found them onto a sandstone boulder.
