Work in memory of the old Jessop Hospital For Women in Sheffield. I had been working in the Biomedical Research Unit at this hospital for almost 10 years before relocation to a new site in 2000. It was an old fashioned hospital, with devoted staff. One of the cleaners was still polishing the corridor floors on the day we moved out. 10 years on most of the hospital has been demolished, two buildings remain. One has been transformed into Sheffield University Music department, the other, where I used to work is derelict. Doors we walked through are located high up in the walls and lead nowhere. New university buildings have gone up on the old site and this remnant of the hospital buildings can be seen through the windows of the new exhibition space. Perspex panels featured parts of the old hospital and video loops showed fragments that I remembered of the interior. The work was commissioned by Sheffield University as part of Art-Science Encounters.
