Wasted / Potential

A soak stain piece in acrylics on raw canvas.  Created for Late Night Art Bangor's Eco Art Takeover exhibition, the painting was built from reserved waste acrylic water (plus new paint for finishing).
I made it at a time recently where racist riots were once again bringing shame to Northern Ireland and I was imagining the impact not only on the frightened and displaced families, but also on the young people involved in the violence and contemplating how negative generational attitudes continue to impact a new generation and grab headlines.  The silver lining, represented by the brighter colours and energy, is the incredible response from the general public in fundraising, hands-on help and denouncing the violence, an ongoing push/pull of issues in this complicated, wonderful, disheartening place.
