Yellow

'Yellow' painting arrived right at the end of a session in the studio. I tend to be bolder and less self conscious at the end of a session and even painting more energetically. I painted the 'whole' canvas in one go. Although I always paint using the layering approach, building the canvas surface and working on sections that need subtle adjustments, which can make or break a painting. Additive and reductive process is my constant way of working. When the painting is more than say 2FT square it is rare I repaint the whole in one go as with 'Stillness'. The next day there was surprise and excitement about this painting.

Voyage

Bcalm has a history of transition starting from 2013 when I exhibited this painting in a solo show in London, Thomas and Paul Gallery. Returning after the show I modified the painting by simplifying the complex array of shapes and making subtle changes to the colour values. Then in early 2015, post West Pier Art project, I changed it again.
