David Appleyard
Since establishing my artist practice in 2007, my creative endeavours have led me to build a substantial portfolio, consisting of both studio projects and site-specific works throughout the United Kingdom. Each individual project has presented its own distinct narratives and challenges, contributing to a diverse body of work.
A significant part of my artistic output has been characterised by a meticulous and research-driven approach, fostering collaboration with individuals, local organisations, craftspeople, and manufacturers to share and discuss ideas within communities. My work is infused with historical narratives, a sense of wit, and reflections on our place in the world, effectively conveying our collective heritage and human experience.
Central to my practice is storytelling through objects and installations, often carrying symbolic significance. My projects encompass sculptures, architectural interventions, time-based works, and engagement activities involving local communities. Utilising various materials and processes like timber, metal, glass, stone, resin, light, and sound, I've had the privilege of creating large-scale temporary and permanent artworks.
I have extensive experience working within public and private art commissioning, alongside working on several large-scale heritage projects.
