Rod Dee

Guildford
My work is about exceeding boundaries.

Previously, within my practice, I have been interested in notions of ritualism and the connections held between physical action and transcendence. I have worked predominantly in video and based works around the body to explore one's ability to exceed boundaries and move between different spaces. However, in recent times, I have found my practice to be increasingly informed by abstract themes drawn from psychodynamic theory, a change marked by my decision to train as an Art Psychotherapist and having to undergo personal therapy myself. With this in mind, my work looks to express something of my own perspectives on the therapeutic encounter and the necessity for certain boundaries that enable us to describe and understand our conscious and unconscious experiences in a safe and therapeutic way.

Lived Experience

Born in 1984, I currently live and work in Guildford. In 2015, I completed an MA in Art Psychotherapy at The University of Roehampton. For more information about my training, and its effect upon my art practice, please visit my blog Art as Therapy (https://www.a-n.co.uk/blogs/art-as-therapy).
