The Curtain

From PCOS, Adenomyosis, Endometriosis, a Hysterectomy and a Pulmonary Embolism. All these medical experiences are displayed on this hospital curtain replica. The Curtain was started in 2021 as a way of keeping my art practice going whilst in pain. Continuing to add to it over the last three years as my health got worse. When the curtain is fully opened out the hidden internal panels are hand embroidered, and the use of pastel colours come from noticing the colours often found in hospitals. Pastel colours are used to create a calming environment, but as a patient that’s pain is often reduced to anxiety this couldn’t be further from the truth. There are 5 panels on each side, that are a visual collage of one women’s health experience but is also very similar to so many others.
