The visual imagery evoked by the character of Miss Havisham and her situation in Dickens Great Expectations is rich and compelling. There are a multitude of drawings, paintings and film depictions of Miss Havisham encased in her decaying house surrounded by her objects which both conspire and disrupt, providing the backdrop for her continued existence in this way in the present. This work calls upon some of the concepts highlighted by Miss Havisham's character, the power of objects including the house, their stillness and liveliness and their ability to control time.
