Michael Pegler

Shrewsbury
My concern is to analyse form and deconstruct our perceptions.

Michael Pegler is an elected member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors. A sculptor since 1978 he has worked to commission since 1992 with sculptures represented in both private and public collections.  This practice also includes some analytic writing and philosophical research regarding identity.

The main sculptural language is glyptic, the carved form. The sculptures incorporate an implied interior logic with full volumes that variably feature chiselled textures or highly polished surfaces.

The studio work prioritises the discovery of content and engages with various ontological notions. Ideas are developed during a flexible initial process that currently lends itself to the finished media of stone, granite or marble. Extensive drawing, fabricating scale models and the creation of intermediary maquettes feature in that process.
