Adam Grose

Taunton
Adam Grose is a Cornish born artist, writer and tutor currently based in Somerset. His practice explores fragility, either through the image, the process or the history, responding to forms of memory, landscape or the human condition.

Semi-abstract glimpses are drawn from observation when travelling, gathering images through sketching, photography and memory.

Adam Grose’s practice explores fragility through layering, erasing, and entropy, creating a dialogue between the past and present.  Images respond to a myriad of influences, including historical, personal, memorial, human complexity and the changing landscape.

Grose aims to capture expressive moments via plein-air glimpses and memory, gathering a diverse array of images. These glimpses serve as foundations for constructing prints and paintings, where colour and line layers intertwine, forming visual tapestries constantly evolving over time.

Through masking, scrawling and destruction, Grose embraces the concept of entropy to breathe new life into the work, fostering fresh interactions and interventions.  The multi-layered artwork bears their history: each layer interacting to create images that echo the past moment in the present.

This exploration expands Grose’s artistry, leading to experiments with new forms of print and painting, seeking harmonious balance between form and space, conveying poetic lyricisms of environmental and societal complexity.

The work is a testament to the fragility of existence, capturing moments of ephemeral beauty and meaning through continual renewal and evolution. It seeks to not only reflect the complexities of our past, but also offer a glimpse into what lies ahead, forging a timeless connection between the past, present, and future.
